The last major flyover ramp connecting Wilshire Boulevard to the 405 Freeway opened Thursday, marking the first time in more than a year that the interchange is fully open to vehicles, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Metro.
The on-ramp, between eastbound Wilshire Boulevard and the northbound 405, is more than 2,000 feet longer than the one it replaced, and will allow more vehicles to queue there instead of on Wilshire Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard.
The ramp opened after a couple months of closure, and is expected to be used by 8,000 vehicles per day, according to the release.
The construction is part of the Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project, which aims to add 10 miles of carpool lane to the northbound lanes of the 405 and widen the freeway. The carpool lane will be the longest in the nation, connecting Los Angeles County and Orange County, according to the release.
