After several dominant performances, UCLA women’s tennis will conclude the fall portion of its schedule as several members head to Flushing, N.Y., to compete in the USTA/ITA Women’s National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
The doubles team of freshman Jennifer Brady and sophomore Catherine Harrison will be the No. 1 seed after qualifying for the tournament with a win at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals on Oct. 21. In that tournament, Brady and Harrison overcame a fourth-seed draw to knock off the top-seeded and defending national champion USC doubles team.
Joining them on the trip to New York will be junior Chanelle Van Nguyen, who earned a singles win at the same tournament, and junior Robin Anderson, who won the ITA Indoor title last year. Brady will not only be competing in the doubles draw, but also in the singles tournament.
Brady and Anderson teamed up earlier this year to claim the doubles title at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships for the first time in UCLA history. However, the two teammates will be competitors this week as they both vie for the individual title.
After the tournament, UCLA will not play again until Jan. 17, when players will compete in the Freeman Memorial Championships and National Collegiate Tennis Classic.
