UCLA swim and dive to hold quad meet for home opener

Of the small handful of meets hosted at the Spieker Aquatics Center this season, UCLA swim and dive welcomes three competitors today for the first.

The women will compete against the likes of Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara and Florida Gulf Coast. Of the three schools hosted in today’s quad meet, none are ranked in the top 25.

Last year, swim and dive opened its season with a 197-92 victory over Oregon State and a 185-110 win over UC Santa Barbara. The Bruins did not compete against the FGCU Eagles last year.

About two weeks ago, UCLA headed south and defeated the San Diego Toreros 184.5-101.5, winning 13 of 14 swimming events in its season opener. The Bruins said they have been entering these early competitions against lower-level opponents with open minds, trying out new events in a sort of litmus test in order to gauge the strength of the team.

In the meet against the Toreros, three Bruins freshman Linnea Mack, junior Noelle Tarazona and senior Ting Quah each won two events. Today’s meet will begin at noon at Spieker Aquatics Center.
