UCLA women’s cross country defeats USC at home meet

Last Friday the UCLA cross country team hosted its only home meet of the season at the Brookside Golf Course.

The women’s team defeated USC, while the men participated in an unscored event and raced in an 8K against alumni and Cerritos College.

USC claimed the first two individual spots for the women, while junior Sierra Vega placed third for UCLA, with a time of 21:57.03. She was followed by her teammates, redshirt junior Paisley Pettway and redshirt freshman Rachel Brajkovich.

The Bruins also took the next nine places, ensuring their win against the Trojans.

For the men, freshman Daniel De La Torre took the individual first place with a time of 24:22.68.

Afterward, the cross country program honored team members from the 1980s who had made major contributions to UCLA. Among the honorees was Hall of Fame coach, Bob Larsen, who was recognized for revamping the UCLA cross country program after being hired as head coach in 1979, and leading UCLA to six NCAA appearances throughout the 1980s.

Next up for the Bruins is the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. next Saturday, October 19th.
