The Associated Students UCLA provides student services and activities that the university does not fund and oversees the Undergraduate Students Association Council, Graduate Students Association, Communications Board, campus services and enterprises.
STORE
- Computer store sales are down, which could be due to a 2 to 3 percent decrease in sales of Apple computers and PCs and the Ackerman Turnaround construction, said Bob Williams, executive director of ASUCLA.
- About 70 students ordered textbooks for their classes using a new program that delivers textbooks to the Hill.
- ASUCLA received 1,200 job applications, but some students applied for more than one job.
- The Monster Sale, the biggest sale of the year for ASUCLA, is scheduled for Oct. 24.
CONSTRUCTION
- Restoration for “The Black Experience” mural is going to begin on Friday.
- ASUCLA is looking into constructing a door to separate the Global Viewpoint Lounge from Tsunami in Ackerman Union.
- Computer store construction is mostly completed, and right now workers are focusing on making the display more aesthetically pleasing.
FOOD
- Wolfgang Puck Express opened Sept. 18 and has since begun selling alcohol. The restaurant is also bringing in different kinds of customers, such as faculty members who work across campus, Williams said.
- A coffee cart opened outside of the Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies last week.
PROPOSALS
- The ASUCLA Board of Directors decided to pass UniCamp’s proposal to have a fundraiser during homecoming week consisting of three things – putting out donation jars
by cash registers in restaurants and in the store, asking for $1 donations on
BearWear items and running a table on A-Level in Ackerman Union. - The Board of Directors also discussed matching the UniCamp jar donations up to $2,000.
