National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute gave five University of California medical campuses a $12 million grant to launch a Center for Accelerated Innovations, according to a university press release on Thursday.
The new center will be one of three in the country and aims to use the resources at the UC medical centers at Davis, Los Angeles, Irvine, San Diego and San Fransisco to develop technologies for commercial use, according to the statement.
Researchers on different campuses will be able to expand their projects by aligning their efforts and having access to more education programs and research cores, said Lars Berglund, director of the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center, in the statement.
UCLA aims to create a new sustainable infrastructure and incubate more technologies with industry requirements, according to the statement.
The UC Biomedical Research Acceleration, Integration and Development, which connects the five medical campuses for contracting, data sharing and regulatory oversight, will oversee the new center, according to the press release.
