USAC Recap – Sept. 24

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

  • The council approved contingency allocations with a 7-0-5 vote. Five council members abstained from voting to avoid a conflict of interest.

Appointments

  • The council unanimously approved all academic appointments.

Officer Reports

  • USAC President John Joanino said 7,000 in Solidarity, a campaign against sexual assault run by his office and the Student Wellness Commission, is going well and that hundreds of UCLA students have already pledged to support survivors of sexual assault and only engage in consensual sexual activities.

  • Internal Vice President Avi Oved said students in his office talked with members from about 150 student organizations at the Enormous Activities Fair about applying for USAC funding.

  • External Vice President Maryssa Hall said she is planning to meet with student group leaders to draft a resolution about USAC’s stance on the appointment of Janet Napolitano as UC president. She added that her office has started registering students to vote.

  • Academic Affairs Commissioner Darren Ramalho said the new Academic Affairs Commission websites are live and there is a now a separate website for academic appointments to increase their visibility.
