Pushing and shoving in the line for the Bruin Bash concert in Pauley Pavilion Sunday night caused some confusion and chaos, including the arrest of one student for combative behavior.
Police herded students through the alleyway between the Intramural Field and the John Wooden Center around 8:30 p.m. Students were tightly packed in the lines and yelling to get through as police attempted to contain the crowd in the alleyway space, said Claudia Varney, a third-year world arts and cultures student who was at the concert.
“The police was being really aggressive. … Everyone was (initially) really excited about the concert, but they weren’t excited anymore after standing still for 30 minutes,” Varney said.
Officials delayed allowing students to go inside the concert because the people in line were getting aggressive, said Jessica Trumble, a fourth-year English student and the Cultural Affairs commissioner in USAC.
There was only one arrest, said Nancy Greenstein, a spokeswoman for university police. She said she did not know if students were removed from the concert itself for rowdy behavior.
“(Sunday night) was just the first return of Bruin Bash to Pauley Pavilion,” Greenstein said. “I expect there were a lot of lessons learned.”
