After a slow start to UCLA’s season opener in Pasadena, the Bruins lead the Nevada Wolf Pack, 17-13 at halftime.

In a game that had UCLA listed as 21-point favorites, Nevada has shown the ability to compete with last year’s Pac-12 South champions, scoring on three of five drives to draw within four points of the Bruins.

Nevada junior dual-threat quarterback Cody Fajardo completed 12 of his 17 pass attempts for 106 yards and added another 79 yards on the ground, including a 1-yard keeper for a touchdown with just 7 seconds left to play in the half.

For the Bruins, redshirt junior running back Jordon James has shown some burst in his first game as a starter, netting 108 yards on the ground on 14 carries. In his entire 2012 campaign, James gained 215 yards on the ground. Three other Bruins combined for the other seven of UCLA’s 21 first-half rushes.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Brett Hundley scored UCLA’s first touchdown of the game in the Bruins’ first drive, a 37-yard rush following a fake handoff.

UCLA scored again on its fourth drive, a 5-yard pass from Hundley to redshirt senior wide receiver Shaquelle Evans with 2:15 remaining in the half.

Redshirt junior linebacker Eric Kendricks led all tacklers in the first half with eight stops, including six solo tackles.
