Third phone robbery of month reported to university police

An iPhone 5 was stolen out of a student’s hand Saturday in an armed robbery, according to a university police report.

The robbery took place at the intersection of Kelton Avenue and Ophir Drive at 10:30 p.m., according to the report. A man went up to the student from behind and displayed a weapon, possibly a knife, according to the report.

After taking the iPhone, the man drove off in a new blue or black sedan, which another man was driving. The car was last seen driving southbound on Kelton Avenue, according to the report.

The man who stole the phone was described as black, about 20 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark-colored sweater, dark pants and sneakers.

The case is still under investigation, according to the report.

The university police department advises that individuals walk in groups at night and avoid walking with a cell phone in their hand.
