A student’s cell phone was stolen out of his hand in the North Village Sunday morning, marking the second phone robbery reported to university police this month.
A man grabbed the student’s iPhone 5 out of his hand on the 600 block of Levering Avenue at about 12:45 a.m., according to a UCPD report released Monday. The man then got into a a black 2013 Dodge Avenger, shined a laser pointer into the student’s eyes and told him to leave.
The robber and three other men in the car drove north on Veteran Avenue.
The thief was described as black, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, with short black hair.
A similar robbery involving a phone snatched from a student’s hand happened on Aug. 8, according to UCPD. It is unclear whether or not the two thefts are related, said UCPD spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein.
Anyone with information is asked to call UCPD at (310) 825-9371.
