Pauley Pavilion, Wooden Center temporarily evacuated following bomb threat investigation

Several UCLA buildings and parts of Bruin Walk were temporarily evacuated Saturday evening after officials received a threatening call about a bomb on a university basketball court, university police officials said.

The Los Angeles Police Department received the threatening phone call about 5 p.m. and notified university police, UCPD authorities said. School officials then started to evacuate the John Wooden Center, Pauley Pavilion and the Student Activities Center.

LAPD’s bomb squad responded to the call and searched the area. They did not find any suspicious package, university officials said.

All buildings were cleared by 8:30 p.m. The Wooden Center will remain closed for the rest of the night.

The university did not send out a BruinAlert, a text or email that warns students, faculty or staff about any possible dangers on campus.

UCLA spokesman Steve Ritea said that several factors are considered when deciding whether or not to send out a BruinAlert, including how many people are on campus and the type of threat.

He added that he could not comment on why Saturday’s incident did not warrant an alert because it would be a security risk.
