Police report second attempted burglary in on-campus dorms

An unknown person allegedly attempted to enter a room on the first floor of Saxon Residential Suites through an open window early Sunday morning, according university police report released today.

It was the second attempted burglary in an on-campus dorm room within the past week.

At 6 a.m Sunday, the person allegedly tried to climb into the room while two students were sleeping inside. The person was “startled” to find the students in the room and quickly fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to the report.

Nothing was stolen and no one was hurt, said Nancy Greenstein, a UCPD spokeswoman.

Police do not have many details about the person because the students did not have a clear view, Greenstein added. But they did say that the person was possibly a man, she added.

A similar incident occurred on Friday morning when a man entered a room in Courtside Residential Plaza through a window. He fled through the front door when the students sleeping inside woke up. Nothing was stolen and no one was hurt in the incident.

The man allegedly involved in Friday’s incident was described by police as Asian, 18 to 24 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He had black hair and was wearing a black UCLA sweatshirt, black sweatpants, a black Nike flip-flops and black framed glasses.

It is unclear from the reports whether the two incidents are related.

Police recommend that students keep their doors and windows locked and do not invite or allow any strangers into their rooms.

Anyone with information about either incident can call UCPD at (310)-825-9371.
