A University of California Regents committee nominated UC Berkeley student Sadia Saifuddin as the 2014-2015 student regent, according to a press statement from the UC Office of the President released Wednesday.
The UC Board of Regents are slated to vote on the nomination at their bimonthly board meeting in July.
If approved, the third-year social welfare student will participate in regents meetings as a student regent-designate but will not be able to vote until her term officially begins in July 2014.
UCLA alumna and UC Irvine law student Cinthia Flores will serve as the student regent for the 2013-2014 year. The student regent speaks on behalf of UC students at all board meetings.
Saifuddin would be the 40th student regent in UC history if approved.
