The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.
Agenda
- Members of Associated Students UCLA’s communications board told the council that ASUCLA approved a five-year budget plan at its last meeting.
- The council approved contingency allocations unanimously.
- Organization space allocations were approved with a unanimous vote.
- The Student Health Advisory Committee charter was approved unanimously.
Officer Reports
- USAC President John Joanino said he sent council members emails about the Student Code of Conduct and encourages them to give feedback about possible revisions to the code. He said he plans to meet with Suzanne Seplow, the executive director of the Office of Residential Life, to talk about preventative education for sexual assaults, and he plans to speak with university librarian Gary Strong about cost estimates and funding for implementing night time study hours in the Charles E. Young Research Library.
- Avi Oved, USAC internal vice president, said he compiled a manual containing information that chief of staffs should know about their positions.
- USAC External Vice President Maryssa Hall said she encourages other offices to publicize the upcoming University of California Students Association and United States Student Association congresses.
- Darren Ramalho, the USAC Academic Affairs commissioner, said he is trying to find a faculty representative to sit at the council table.
Appointments
- Precious Elam, a first-year psychobiology student, was appointed to the Associated Students UCLA Board of Directors with a 10-2-0 vote.
- The council appointed Jordan Wong, a second-year international development studies student, to the ASUCLA Board of Directors with a unanimous vote.
Special Presentations
- Representatives from the University of California Students Association steering committee presented to the council about the Student of Color Conference and bringing the conference back to UCLA at the beginning of November. The representatives said the conference aims to create a safe place for all students and allies and to educate students. The presentation included testimonies from UCLA students who had attended conferences in the past. Last year, the conference was held at UC Riverside.
