Official student group representatives will gather at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening in Ackerman Grand Ballroom for the Undergraduate Students Association Council election endorsement hearing. During the hearing, student group members ask USAC candidates questions that will help the group decide who to endorse in the election. The Election Board is live-streaming the proceedings – watch above.

Sooo Let’s Act definitely lost my vote. Definitely voting for Bruins United and Bruin Alliance.
Thanks for having this livestream available! I hope students are taking advantage of it!
Slate politics is stupid. But Let’s Act’s 3 exec candidates are far more qualified than the 3 BU is endorsing.
BU is only running 2 exec candidates.
Yeah they know that Maryssa Hall (current national affairs director for EVP) and LA! have the EVP office on lock.
Nicole Fossier out-qualifies maryssa in every field. More EVP and bruin lobby corp experience, plus did you see how Nicole wiped the floor with Maryssa?!
Nicole is a FAR better choice for EVP. For starters, she’s able to unite campus, seen in the almost unanimous cheers she got tonight. I don’t care what slate Maryssa is running on, NO ONE will make a better choice than Nicole!!!!!!!!!
both candidates would be remarkable for the job if you ask me, because they both have remarkable experiences in the EVP office. this is one of those races where you don’t know who might win, because they’re pretty much on the same level of qualifications, with races like this, you look to their specific platforms, their slates’ mission, and what they’ve done outside of EVP.
Honey, when you grow up a little more and actually gather some experience on this campus, you’ll learn about how Let’s Act and the groups behind them are corrupt and play dirty politics. I was on the campaign two years ago for Students First, and there was so much disunity in the party last year they couldn’t even put a slate together. Now I proudly align myself with the Bruin Alliance, and will be voting for Taylor and Nicole for President and EVP and the Bruins United slate for the rest of the positions.
and how exactly is Bruins United immune from dirty politics?
Sweetie, it doesn’t take an extra two years to make an informed decision regarding these candidates. The online platforms and these endorsement hearings are supposed to showcase the best of what they have to offer, and frankly, if this is the best BU has, I’m not impressed.
As for SF!’s disunity last year, I could care less. I said earlier, I’m not a fan of slate politics. I think that it brings down the stronger candidates (John Joanino, Lana El Farra, Maryssa Hall, Sunny Singh, Lauren Rogers, Devin Murphy, Anthony Montalvo, Lizzy Naameh, Sam Haws) while allowing unqualified people to be compromised into candidacy.
And even us first years know that Bruins Alliance is just a coalition of butthurt former BU’s that weren’t qualified enough to run with BU last year. Best of luck.
There is no way that Montalvo is a stronger candidate than Armen. Looking at their platforms, Armen has better, more tangible ideas about how facilities can impact student lives that he can make happen.
Hi “FirstYear”, my name is Nicole Fossier, and I am the Bruin Alliance candidate for EVP. I have worked on the SF! and Lana and Taylor campaigns for the past three years. Bruin Alliance is actually a coalition of disillusioned students coming together from all sides of campus to bring a fresh perspective to USAC.
I’m glad you are looking at candidates from different parties, and I hope you continue to look into the background and platforms of each candidate :).
I’m just so upset when someone polarizes a slate like this. Personally, I was on the campaign for BU last year and saw so much dirty politics that I left the slate. This year seems no different. There will still be block voting, and dirty deals, and secret money. I’m not saying lets act is immune, but I’ve seen the dark side of BU, and I’m not going back.
get informed before you comment.
1. CARLY is far more qualified than John or Tayloe
WHY? because she did bullshit campaigns as a gen rep?!
The Top EXEC Candidates are: CARLY YOSHIDA, LANA EL FARRA, and NICOLE FOSSIER
These three are far more qualified than their opponents, and notice how I’m willing to break across 3 party lines in admitting this.
Carly Yoshida wasn’t even BU’s first choice for president. They’re running her to combat the fact that John Joanino is a queer student of color. John has far more experience in state and national student affairs. Carly has none. BU should’ve ran Sunny or Avi
I’m sorry, but as a first year who’s not involved with either party, Carly did a much better job than John or Taylor. It’s pretty obvious you’re involved with the Let’s Act campaign. It’s not to say I’m going to vote for the entire Bruins United slate, because there are a couple I feel I could vote for for Let’s Act. But the Let’s Act candidates for President, Facilities, Financial Supports, and especially Academic Affairs were JOKES.
Idk I think facilities and president for let’s act has it on lock. I don’t get what people see in Carly. I feel like she doesn’t believe in anything, and does t want to advocate for anything that SAA doesn’t already do…
Um, Armen (the Armenian dude) was beyond impressive for facilities. He kept the debate relevant. His opponent randomly showcased irrelevant issues of sexuality as his qualifications.
NewBruin, have you checked out their platforms, did you go to endorsement hearings? ARE YOU SERIOUS? These candidates all (regardless of slate) put in work! You should put your research into platforms, not what you THINK you know! check the facts of BU, LETS ACT and BA before you run your mouth about which candidates are (jokes) or not. FOH
Will we be able to rewatch the endorsements?

The sound is so bad on this
Let’s be real, it doesn’t matter who is the most qualified, this is a popularity contest. That is why Bruins United always picks people with the most friends, especially friends on FB.
I hope that since endorsements, and hopefully debates are live, that this will encourage UCLA students to vote for the candidates that they think best represents them and their needs.
I’m pretty sure half the comments on this thread are from the same 2-3 people. It’s so easy to make fake Disqus accounts for DB. These are like Youtube comments. Haha
All I can say is Nicole Fossier was beyond impressive last night. I knew nothing about her other than she was allegedly running with a fringe third party slate. But, she OWNED Maryssa on every question. There were even points when Maryssa couldn’t even answer questions—public humiliation if you ask me. Nicole has a hold on the issues and will take the EVP office away from its narrow-minded issues focus.
I’ve voted BU and SF!/LET’S ACT! before, and it would suit the student population to vote Nicole for EVP!
This is the problem with USAC elections. Everyone gets so mean and angry and it divides the candidates. The personal attacks on candidates from ALL slates in this comment section is extremely disheartening. We all have a right to our opinion but lets please respect the hard work every candidate is putting in. We as Bruins are much better than slinging mud back and forth. Lets keep things positive or else all slates will loose thousands of students. This should be an opportunity for healthy dialogue and conversation, not an opportunity to talk mess about people. Respect everyone’s experience and where they are coming from and ultimately let every person make the decision they want by being informed, not told lies!
