The UCLA women’s water polo team will soon end regular season play at its own Spieker Aquatics Center – this weekend it will take on three competitors in the span of two days.
The No. 4 Bruins are hosting three nonconference games this weekend, beginning tonight with No. 11 Loyola Marymount. In the last meeting between the two teams, almost a year ago, the Lions took the Bruins to overtime before losing, 7-6.
On Saturday, the team will host Cal Baptist, who holds an even record of 16-16, immediately followed by Pomona-Pitzer, a Division III school.
Currently, two of UCLA’s attackers – sophomore Emily Donohoe and freshman Rachel Fattal – are among the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s leading scorers, placing seventh and 14th, respectively. In saves, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sami Hill is second in the league, averaging 10.72 saves per game.
This weekend will provide the Bruins with a chance to fine-tune their performances, perfect the pressure shots and build their confidence back up – confidence they will need in their upcoming matchup against the No. 1 USC Trojans.
Next week will mark their final game before the MPSF tournament.
