Steve Alford assembles basketball coaching staff

On Thursday, UCLA announced basketball coach Steve Alford’s team of assistant coaches.

Duane Broussard will join Alford having worked for 10 years at New Mexico, including the last five with Alford. At New Mexico, Broussard focused on game preparation and advance scouting.

Ed Schilling comes to the Bruins after four years at Indianapolis’ Park Tudor High School. David Grace comes from within the Pac-12, after five seasons as an assistant coach at Oregon State.

Tyus Edney will stay on as director of operations.

Alford is still working to finalize his support staff and continuing to meet with UCLA players one-on-one.

According to a story on ESPN.com, Alford said that he had not yet gotten in touch with freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad, but that he assumed he was going to declare for the NBA draft.

  1. Not impressed by this guy at all…… first it was his response to the question about the rape incident and now hiring of high school coaches and ex military guys? common, what the heck are these guys doing at Westwood? We fired Ben Howland for this?
