Pauley Pavilion hosted its first athletic competition not involving a UCLA athletic team since renovation Monday night in the first-ever Los Angeles Tennis Challenge, a tennis showcase that raised money to fight autism. Just two days after hosting a men’s basketball game, the venue was transformed into a tennis arena with a court and net installed. Co-hosted by Mardy Fish and UCLA alumnus Justin Gimelstob, the event included three matches featuring tennis stars Novak Djokovic, Fish, James Blake, Tommy Haas, Pete Sampras and doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan. A host of celebrities including Dr. Phil, Jodie Foster, Rainn Wilson and Bruce Willis also attended the event, which opened with a red carpet segment. Several thousand fans attended the event.
