STANFORD, Calif. — UCLA lamented its slow start Thursday night against Cal.
Today against Stanford, UCLA has almost doubled its first-half scoring total from its loss Thursday, racing out to a 43-38 halftime lead.
In Berkeley, the Bruins managed just 22 first-half points while their jump shots were falling short.
They shot 53 percent in the first half against Stanford. Freshman guard Jordan Adams went five out of seven for 11 points, while freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad shot four out of five and scored 10.
Stanford, for the most part, kept up even as UCLA tried to run its up-tempo offense as much as possible. Junior forward Dwight Powell and junior guard Aaron Bright both scored 11 for the Cardinal.
UCLA is also on the right side of the rebounding margin, grabbing 21 boards in the half compared to Stanford’s 15.
Towards the latter stages of the half, Stanford turned to a zone defense and continued it to the end of the half.
