Agenda:

  • The council unanimously approved this week’s contingency allocations.
  • International Student Advisory Council members Jiwei Zhang and Andreas Liu attended the meeting to briefly introduce themselves.
  • The council postponed their discussion about the Election Code, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday and is now rescheduled to take place  week five of this quarter.
  • The council unanimously approved a motion to install signs to state that certain areas of Kerckhoff Hall are only open to “faculty, students, and invited guests,” though the exact wording and placement of the signs has not been decided yet.  The council said it plans to meet with the Associated Students of UCLA to discuss the installation of cameras in Kerckhoff.

Officer Reports:

  • USAC President David Bocarsly said he will send out his campus-wide email in a few days. Bocarsly updated officers on campus climate survey responses – which have risen from 5 percent a week and a half ago to 6.4 percent.
  • Internal Vice President Andrea Hester gave details on the On-campus Housing Council and USAC Leadership Showcase, hosted for students interested in leadership opportunities, on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in Covel South Bay room on the third floor at 7 p.m. She said she will hold the “What is ‘Diversity’ in 2013?” workshop on Jan. 29 in Ackerman Union 3517  from 2-3:50 p.m. as part of her office’s Center for Student Programming Leadership Series.
  • External Vice President Lana Habib El- Farra said her office has drafted a piece of legislation regarding the national student debt crisis. She said the Bruin Lobby Corps will hold their first workshop about lobbying on Wednesday on The Hill.
  • Academic Affairs Commissioner Kim Davis said the Freshman 15: Navigating DARS workshop will be held Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at Sunset Learning Center. She updated officers on changes to URSA’s degree progress report system for transfer applicants and first-year students, which is expected to be interactive and easier to read. The office is working with the Queer Alliance to save the LGBT minor and searching for ways to cross-list classes for the minor, she said.

Appointments:

  • Michael Starr, USAC General Representative, was appointed as a new member to the Appointments Review Committee.

Special Presentations:

  • A representative from React to Film’s College Action Network, a nonprofit company that makes documentary films on social issues, asked USAC members to help establish a chapter of React to Film at UCLA. React to Film has chapters at almost 50 chapters in across the country, including one at UC Berkeley. The organization is seeking two students to be co-chapter leaders.
