UCLA women’s basketball scores decisive win against Pepperdine

After suffering a stunning loss to Cal State Northridge last week, UCLA avoided a repeat performance in decisive fashion.

The Bruins dismantled the Pepperdine Waves (3-8) in a 77-46 victory tonight.

No. 17 UCLA (8-2) showed high intensity and energy from the start, going on an early 17-3 run to take a 21-7 lead. From that point on, the game’s result was never in doubt.

The Bruins’ bench provided a big boost, outscoring the Waves’ bench 42-14.

Freshman guard Nirra Fields anchored that bench with 19 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and six steals, all game-high numbers.

As a team, UCLA dominated nearly every statistical category, but did suffer a significant loss when senior forward Alyssia Brewer left the game with a sprained ankle midway through the first half.

UCLA will next play St. Joseph’s Monday at home.
