UCLA men’s basketball escaped with a 97-94 overtime victory over No. 7 Missouri at Pauley Pavilion on Friday night.
In overtime, freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad scored the Bruins’ first seven points, including a go-ahead three with 1:01 to play which gave UCLA a 95-93 lead.
Redshirt junior Travis Wear hit a jumper with 12.1 seconds to play to push the Bruin lead to 3, 97-94. Missouri missed two shots on its final possession.
The Bruins opened the second half on a 12-4 run to take an eight-point lead nearly three minutes into the half.
However, Missouri bounced back, led by its junior point guard Phil Pressey. The Tigers would go on a 12-0 run to take an 86-77 lead with 5:34 to play in the game. Pressey finished with 19 points and a school-record 19 assists.
The Bruins closed the second half on an 11-2 run, including freshman guard Jordan Adams’ driving layup with 10.6 seconds to play to tie the game at 88 and eventually send it to overtime. Muhammad finished with a game-high 27 points while Wear finished with 22 points and nine rebounds.
