The members of the UCLA women’s golf team have found the short season to be a constructive time to fine-tune their performances. With the conclusion of their fall season this weekend, the Bruins hope to see better results than they have thus far. The team will have a chance to put all the changes they have been working on into action at the 39th annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas .
“They’re starting to play better, starting to perform a bit better and we’ve had really good practices,” coach Forsyth said. “Each player on the team really felt like they had made some real progress at Stanford. We had a good final round (last week), and we want to go off of that momentum.”
This will be the first time the women compete on this course and, Forsyth is looking forward to it.
“It’s a really good golf course. I think it’s pretty challenging,” Forsyth said. “Every hole is very unique and different and memorable. For me personally, it’s probably one of my favorite golf courses that we get to play.”
Because of injuries, the team will, once again, be short-handed. Senior Tiffany Lua and sophomore Kyle Roig will not compete with the team. Whether this will impact their chances of success is uncertain, but Forsyth is confident that the girls are well-prepared to end the season on a good note.
“It’s hard to go into a tournament with just four players, but we want to give the girls an opportunity to play.” Forsyth hopes that with all the changes made throughout this season, the tournament will be a good indication of how much progress they have made and just how prepared they will be at the beginning of their spring season.
“If we could just get through this event, with everyone walking away feeling like they’ve gotten better and that the changes they’ve been making are starting to show, that would be really good for us,” Forsyth said.
