President David Bocarsly said he plans to send out another campus-wide email educating students and encouraging them to vote.
Andrea “Andi” Hester, internal vice president, said she participated in a three-hour ride along with university police. Hester said that her office plans to hold an off-campus apartment fair for students next quarter.
Lana Habib El-Farra, external vice president, said her office plans to put on a “day of action” in mid-November about student debt.
Kim Davis, academic affairs commissioner, said there is a new director of the Writing Success Program at UCLA. Davis also said she plans to reach out to UCLA Undergraduate Admissions about the holistic admissions process.
Appointments
The council unanimously appointed Lauren Ball, a second-year communication studies student, to the Associated Students UCLA Communications Board.
The council approved Tammy Rubin, a second-year undeclared life sciences student, to the ASUCLA Communications Board by a vote of 8-0-4.
The council unanimously approved Jonathan Martinez, a fourth-year Spanish and community and culture student, as chair of the Community Service Mini Fund Committee.
The council unanimously approved Sabrina Ponce, a third-year history student, to the Community Service Mini Fund Committee.
The council unanimously approved Peter Berquist, a second-year political science and economics student to the John Wooden Center Board of Governors.
The council approved Angie He, a third-year economics student, to the John Wooden Center Board of Governors with a vote of 11-0-1.
Special Presentations
Kenn Heller, associate director of innovation initiatives for UCLA Recreation, told the council that UCLA Homecoming and Pauley Opening Madness is now free for students and 1,000 parents. Heller said the decision was made based on student concerns. Those who have already bought tickets can be refunded, he added.
