UCLA defense paves way to 42-14 win over Colorado, first Pac-12 victory

BOULDER, Colo. “”mdash; The UCLA Bruins secured their first Pac-12 win of the season by beating Colorado at Folsom Field on Saturday, 42-14.

Though they led by just 21-7 at halftime, the stagnant UCLA offense was jump-started by a pair of turnovers forced by the defense to put Colorado away.

Midway through the third quarter, the Buffs were threatening to make it a one-score game. After Colorado junior quarterback Jordan Webb completed a 31-yard pass play to freshman tight end Vincent Hobbs, UCLA redshirt sophomore safety Tevin McDonald then forced a fumble, giving the Bruins a possession they would score on with an eight-yard pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Brett Hundley to redshirt senior tight end Joseph Fauria.

On Colorado’s ensuing possession, redshirt junior safety Stan McKay intercepted Webb on a pass that was first tipped by redshirt sophomore linebacker Eric Kendricks. This time, the Bruins scored on a 25-yard run by redshirt sophomore running back Jordan James.

Later in the fourth quarter, redshirt junior running back Damien Thigpen scored an insurance touchdown on a reverse that went 23 yards for a touchdown.

The win moves UCLA to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in Pac-12 play.
