UCLA football remains humble, focused on a balanced attack

Recent restrictions bar members of the media from entering UCLA football’s locker room following games.

If they did have access, though, they might hear the the Bruins listening to Public Enemy’s “Don’t Believe the Hype.”

Despite its early success, No. 22 UCLA remains as focused as ever, refusing to be anything but humble amid the hype following its win over Nebraska.

Instead, the team’s attention ““ at least publicly ““ is solely concentrated on the upcoming game against Houston.

“We’re not satisfied here at all. We’re only 2-0 and tomorrow it’s on the the next opponent,” said redshirt senior running back Johnathan Franklin following his career game against the Cornhuskers.

The Bruins will bring their high-octane offense against a Cougar defense that ranks 119th in the nation in total defense, surrendering 521 yards per game thus far.

Franklin will look to capitalize on the Houston defense and continue his powerful season, which has become a campaign of sorts since he’s popped up on multiple Heisman award watch lists in the last week.

On the other side of the ball, the UCLA defense will certainly need to be focused.

In particular, the UCLA secondary will be tested by sophomore quarterback David Piland, who has led the Houston offense to fourth in the nation in passing.

Additionally, the Bruin defense has surrendered 27 points per contest and struggled with tackling last weekend against the Cornhuskers.

UCLA will have to continue to pair its focus with its balanced attack against Houston or else Jay-Z’s “Lost One” may be next on the playlist.
