Coach Ben Howland and the UCLA men’s basketball team is picking up right where they left off from the class of 2012 recruiting haul. After reeling in the top recruiting class in the nation in 2012 according to ESPN, the Bruins have already received two verbal commitments this offseason for the class of 2013.
UCLA’s most recent commitment came on Saturday from Allerik Freeman. It should have been more highly heralded, but was perhaps overlooked due to the Bruin football team completing a major upset over then-No. 16 Nebraska. In fact, the commit was there at the Rose Bowl that night on his official visit.
Earlier that day, Freeman announced his verbal commitment via Twitter, saying, “I’m officially a UCLA Bruin, thank you too all the people who supported me and especially my family! All love. Long way to go though.”
Freeman is a 6-foot-4-inch combo guard currently playing at Findlay Prep in Nevada, but initially from North Carolina. He is the No. 52 recruit in the nation according to Rivals.com, No. 51 according to ESPN and No. 57 according to Scout.com. Freeman also received scholarship offers from Duke, Villanova, Ohio State and Kansas.
Freeman joins fellow combo guard Zach LaVine, considered a top 50 prospect, in his commitment to UCLA.
