A UCLA student was robbed by an armed man on Veteran Avenue Thursday night, according to university police.
At 11:20 p.m., the student was walking north on Veteran Avenue when a man came up to him from behind, according to a police report released today. The man grabbed the student’s laptop, checked to see if he had any other valuables, and then ran east on Strathmore Drive, the report stated.
The man was holding a sharp object that may have been a knife, according to the report.
The man is described in the report as Hispanic, 22 to 27 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall and 150 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and dark blue jeans at the time of the robbery.
The man was driving a red four-door Toyota, according to the report.
Police suggest that students walk and park in well-lit areas and not become distracted by music or cellphones. When confronted by a robber, students should comply with the robber’s demands and get a detailed description of the robber.
The robbery is currently under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident should call UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
