The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.
Agenda
- Contingency allocations were approved unanimously.
- Financial Supports Commissioner Sahil Seth and General Representative Carly Yoshida were absent.
- Changes to the USAC bylaws were unanimously approved to correct issues of gender neutrality, grammar and inconsistency of names and titles.
Officer reports
- President David Bocarsly said he met with UCLA Recreation and USC Recreation about planning events to prepare for the upcoming Special Olympics Summer Games, which will be held at the UCLA and USC campuses in 2015. Bocarsly said they are planning to hold a 5K run/walk the Sunday before the UCLA–USC football game. The two schools will compete in raising money for the event and in garnering participants, he said. Bocarsly said a student events calendar will be made available to students this fall quarter.
- Andrea “Andi” Hester, internal vice president, said she spoke with Nancy Greenstein, director of Police Community Services at UCLA, and said USAC officers could email Greenstein to schedule a ride-along with university police in September or October.
- Lana Habib El-Farra, external vice president, said the University of California Student Association will be giving $60,000 to the University of California campuses for voter registration purposes.
- Kim Davis, Academic Affairs commissioner, said she has been in contact with the Undergraduate Writing Center and said she will work with the center to increase its visibility to students.
Appointments
- Second-year political science and communication studies student Devin Murphy was approved unanimously to the Financial Aid Policy Committee.
- Miriam Eshaghian, a third-year psychobiology student, and Steven Pham, a fourth-year psychology student, were approved unanimously to the Campus Programs Committee. Second-year political science and global studies student Jenny Nguyen was approved to the committee by a vote of 7-3-0. Second-year communication studies and psychology student Garima Verma was approved to the committee by a vote of 9-0-1.
Special Presentations
- Two representatives from the UCLA Quidditch team spoke to the council about organizing a Quidditch tournament for the 13 USAC offices in October.
