Now, rising sophomore golfer Erynne Lee doesn’t just represent the blue and gold ““ she represents red, white and blue.
On Wednesday, the United States Golf Association announced that Lee would be one of three golfers representing the country at the World Amateur Team Championship next month in Turkey.
Rising LSU junior Austin Ernst and USC graduate Lisa McCloskey complete the squad, who will compete under captain Carol Semple Thompson.
Semple Thompson, a seven-time USGA champion, expressed her excitement over the team in a statement.
“These young women are tremendously talented and are to be congratulated on this honor,” Semple Thompson said. “I am thrilled to be their captain, and we all look forward to representing the USA in Turkey.
Lee is not the only Bruin golfer to play for her country this summer. In June, rising senior Tiffany Lua played for the United States in the biennial Curtis Cup.
The likenesses don’t end there ““ Ernst was one of Lua’s teammates on the Curtis Cup team.
The competition will take place from September 27-30 in Antalya, Turkey. Teams from all over the world will field teams of two or three in hopes of capturing the title.
Lee was highly lauded in her freshman year with the Bruins. She was named both Pac-12 and National Golf Coaches Association Freshman of the Year. She was also one of UCLA’s top performers, finishing with the best scoring average on the team at 72.5.
