An attempted robbery occurred in the 600 block of Landfair Avenue Friday evening, according to university police.
At about 10:35 p.m. Friday, a person was walking south near an apartment building at 625 Landfair Ave. when a man came out of the shadows at the entrance to the building and grabbed him, according to a UCPD report released Saturday.
The man reportedly grabbed the person’s right hand and turned the person around to face him. The person attempted to get away when he saw the man pull a silver object out of his pocket. He could not see whether the object was a weapon or not, according to the report.
At that moment, a car pulled around the corner and its headlights illuminated the street, reportedly startling the man. He then fled north on Landfair Avenue toward Strathmore Drive, according to
the report.
The person who was almost robbed is not believed to be connected to UCLA and was not hurt in
the incident, the report stated.
The man who attempted to rob the person was described in the report as Hispanic, in his late 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches and 180 to 190 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark-colored windbreaker, dark jeans and a dark-colored baseball hat.
University police recommend students avoid walking alone at night. Students should also comply with a robber’s requests if confronted, and obtain a detailed description of the person.
UCPD is currently investigating the attempted robbery. Anyone with information should call UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
