Patricia Turner, a former UC Davis vice provost, was named dean and vice provost for UCLA undergraduate education Wednesday, according to a UCLA statement.
Her appointment to the position follows the retirement of Judith Smith, who served in the role for 16 years.
Formerly, Turner has served as an interim dean of humanities, vice provost and faculty member at UC Davis.
Turner said in the statement that she looks forward to providing future UCLA students with a “high-caliber education.”
“While these are vexing times in terms of state funding, UCLA has the benefit of a long-term commitment to undergraduate education,” she said in the statement. “And I look forward to working on behalf of that goal.”
She will assume the position on Jan. 1, 2013, according to the statement.
