UCLA alumna Cinthia Flores was formally nominated as the 2013-2014 student regent Monday.
Flores, who will begin her second year at the UC Irvine School of Law this fall, graduated from UCLA in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. During her time at UCLA, Flores was the first Latina president of the Undergraduate Students Association Council.
This year, 50 students from nine UC campuses applied for the position, according to a statement from the UC Office of the President.
A UC Board of Regents’ special committee, which included this year’s student Regent Alfredo Mireles, made the nomination, according to the statement.
Jonathan Stein, a graduate student in public policy and law student at UC Berkeley, will be the student regent for the upcoming school year.
The regents will vote on Flores’ nomination during their board meeting in July. If her nomination is approved, Flores would be able to participate in meetings and deliberations as the student regent-designate. She would have voting privileges starting July 2013, when she would move up to be the student regent.
