GSA Recap ““ May 30

The UCLA Graduate Students Association is the voice of graduate students on campus. The association meets for forum every three weeks and takes positions on current issues affecting graduate students. Forum meetings are at 5:30 p.m. in the Ackerman Viewpoint Lounge.

Agenda

  • Without a quorum, the forum could not vote to approve the 2012-2013 GSA budget, minutes or appointments.
  • David Zeke, Nicole Robinson, Dani Molina and Vanessa Thulsiraj were sworn in as the new president, vice president academic affairs, vice president external affairs and vice president internal affairs, respectively.
  • The council discussed changes to the GSA bylaws concerning officer traveling and compensation.

Special Presentations

  • Representatives from the UCLA Division of Social Sciences discussed a revision in the university’s leave of absence policy. The policy was revised to align with the current University of California fee policy on absentia registration, which became effective in 2009. Under this policy, leave of absences will not be granted to students planning to use the time to carry out research within California, prepare for exams or write their dissertations and theses. Students may only take leave of absences for a maximum of three quarters.
