Man accused of killing two USC students claims to be UCLA student, but officials say claim is false

A man charged Tuesday in the murder of two USC students in April has been reported as claiming he is a UCLA student, but university officials have confirmed he is not listed in the registrar.

Bryan Barnes, along with Javier Bolden, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Ming Qu and Ying Wu, two USC electrical engineering students who were killed during a botched robbery attempt on April 11. LA Weekly reported Wednesday that Barnes was claiming on Facebook that he is a UCLA student graduating in 2014.

But UCLA spokesman Steve Ritea said Barnes is not listed as a UCLA student in the university registrar and has never attended the university.
