A top Bruins United campaign organizer has resigned in the wake of complaints from student groups about misrepresentation in slate endorsements.
Chris Flores, who was a co-chair of the slate, released a public statement to the Daily Bruin early this morning stating his intention to step down.
In the letter, he points to recent incidents surrounding the handling of their endorsements by members of the Bruins United slate. UCLA Circle K and Moneythink UCLA filed official complaints on Wednesday that members of Bruins United submitted candidate endorsements for the student groups without their authorization.
Flores said he decided to step down as co-chair of the group because he was disheartened by the slate’s lack of response to the misrepresentation of student groups’ endorsements and the fact that these issues occurred in the first place. He adds that these events should have been given closer attention by Bruins United.
“There are flaws in our electoral system, but that gives no one the right to take advantage of those holes,” Flores wrote in the email.
In the letter, Flores apologized to students, the Election Board and the entire student population for the incidents.
He wrote that he intends to work with administrators and students to change the election code so that similar incidents do not happen in the future.
