The Daily Bruin asked students on campus, “What do you think of UCLA’s recent adoption of a waitlist for this year’s undergraduate admissions?”

Here’s what they had to say:

Chad Comey
Fourth-year, history
“If you’re a high school student, it’s not a position that you’d want to be in. As far as UCLA itself, it makes sense. If you have a waitlist, then the rejection is less harsh. But at the same time, there’s the whole issue of stringing applicants along.”

Jing-Yao Chen
First-year, chemical engineering
“They’re just trying to pack more people into the school. It’s kind of annoying.”

Sahirr Sethhi
First-year, directing graduate student in the School of Theater, Film and Television
“It shows it’s more competitive. It shows that the school is doing good and that a lot of applicants come in.”

Sarah Conner
Second-year, theater
“It’ll still give people hope if they want to get into this school. … It’ll give them a chance.”

Sarah Warthemann
Fourth-year, anthropology
“It makes the competition that much greater. If I was in that position, I’d probably just choose another school. I’d just want to solidify my plans.”
