USAC Recap – April 10

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

  • This week’s contingency allocations were unanimously approved.
  • The council approved the capital items fund allocations with a vote of 10-0-1.
  • The council unanimously approved a resolution that recognizes the 40th anniversary of Samahang Pilipino at UCLA.

Officer reports

  • President Emily Resnick said her office is putting on a farmers market on April 25. Resnick said her office is organizing a town hall meeting about campus climate with MEChA de UCLA on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Moore 100.
  • Kristina Sidrak, internal vice president, said next week is the second annual Ally Week, a weeklong event that educates students about the LGBT community and acknowledges its supporters.
  • Joelle Gamble, external vice president, said Assembly member Holly Mitchell and Speaker John Pérez will speak to students about the proposed Middle Class Scholarship Act.
  • Raquel Saxe, academic affairs commissioner, said her office and Students for Diveristy held two information sessions Tuesday to educate students about the proposed Community and Conflict in the Modern World General Education requirement and to encourage students to talk to faculty members about the requirement.

Appointments

  • The council unanimously appointed Dona Davoodi, a third-year English student, to the Judicial Board.

Special Presentations

  • Representatives from Wheelz, a new campus car-sharing service, presented to the council about their company and asked council members to promote it once it launches at UCLA.
