UCLA student robbed at gunpoint on Midvale Avenue Wednesday

A UCLA student was robbed at gunpoint on Midvale Avenue Wednesday night, according to university police.

The student was walking on Midvale Avenue from Ophir Drive around 10:50 p.m. when a man approached the student from behind and placed a gun to his head, according to a police statement released Wednesday. The man demanded the student give over his iPhone.

When the student refused to give him his phone, another man hit the student over his head with an unknown object, the report stated. The student then gave over his iPhone, and the two men ran to their car, which was parked at the corner of Ophir Drive and Midvale Avenue.

The student’s head has a bump from being hit by the object, according to the report.

The man with the gun is described in the report as black, about 20 years old, 5 feet 8 inches and 160 pounds. He was wearing a dark hoodie, a black beanie, shorts and white socks.

The man who hit the student is black, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, and was wearing brown shorts, according to the report.

The men were with two women, and drove a two-door car that was black or dark green and similar to a 1980s model of a Mercury Cougar or a Ford Thunderbird, the report stated.

UCPD recommends students always be aware of their surroundings. If in a robbery situation, students should comply with the robber, get a detailed description of the suspect and then call university police when safe.

Police are currently investigating the robbery. Anyone with information about the incident should call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
