The UCLA women’s golf team remained level-headed throughout the Bruin Wave Invitational earlier this week despite the moody weather conditions.
The invitational, which took place Monday and Tuesday, was co-hosted by No. 1 UCLA and No. 22 Pepperdine, and featured 15 schools.
After an unsatisfactory performance on Monday, the Bruins finished the competition in second place, two strokes shy of gaining the lead from the Waves.
The first day of the invitational left UCLA in third place, 15 strokes behind first place Pepperdine.
Freshman Erynne Lee, junior Tiffany Lua and redshirt junior Lee Lopez finished sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively, after the 36-hole course on Monday.
Tuesday’s cold front brought gusts of wind to the already difficult 18-hole course on the second day of competition.
“It is a difficult course because you have to be very accurate,” Lua said. “It’s a good test of your game. There are trees everywhere, narrow fairways, sloping greens and the wind (Tuesday).”
The team was also aided by the individual performance of sophomore Ani Gulugian.
“Ani “¦ was the first one out on the golf course,” coach Carrie Forsyth said. “She birdied No. 7 and then she made an eagle on No. 9. When she made the ninth hole today, she was three under (par).”
Gulugian finished the round two over par ““ one of the lowest scores of the day ““ and tied at 11th place for the invitational. Lopez and Lua tied at sixth place after Lee, who also shared her third-place title.
