In the start of the final homestand at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, the Bruins have put together one of their most complete halves of the season while taking a 38-19 lead over Washington State into halftime.
It’s a stark contrast from the team’s first meeting, which the Cougars controlled for one half before UCLA made a mid-game defensive change and won. The Cougars have made just seven field goals. Star forward Brock Motum, who UCLA coach Ben Howland said was an all-conference player this year, has eight points on 2-of-6 shooting.
UCLA senior guard Lazeric Jones almost has as many field goals as the entire Washington State team. He had 14 points in the half on six-of-seven shooting before a late injury forced him to go to the locker room early.
Sophomore center Joshua Smith was also dinged up in the half. Smith put up six points in nine minutes before heading to the locker room late in the second half.
