USAC Recap – Feb. 28

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

“¢bull; This week’s contingency allocations were unanimously approved.

Officer reports

“¢bull; President Emily Resnick presented the revised USAC code of ethics to the council. Council members did not vote to approve the revised code, but will make additional changes after consulting with Associated Students UCLA, the Judicial Board of USAC and the Election Code.
“¢bull; Kristina Sidrak, internal vice president, said Campus Safety Week continues today in Bruin Plaza with self-defense demos and classes, parking lot walking safety tours and yoga classes.
“¢bull; Joelle Gamble, external vice president, said her office is sending UCLA students to the University of California Student Associations’ 10th Annual UC Student Lobby Conference in Sacramento from March 2-5. Gamble said her office is also working with Amnesty International at UCLA to organize a debate about the death penalty in California on April 26.
“¢bull; Raquel Saxe, academic affairs commissioner, said UCLA is looking to expand the number of majors that offer capstone seminars. Saxe said administrators are also discussing creating a three-year graduation plan for students.

Appointments

“¢bull; Jeanna Ashman, a fourth-year history student who was up for appointment as Election Board Chairperson, voluntarily pulled out of the running before Tuesday’s meeting. The council is currently seeking applicants for the position.

Special Presentations

“¢bull; Representatives from CALPIRG’s Energy Service Corps, a group that educates K-12 students in Los Angeles and UCLA students about energy saving, asked the council to work with them in planning future events.
