The South Campus Court of Sciences Student Center will be open for business on Tuesday, said Cindy Bolton, director of Associated Students UCLA Food Service.

The center has been under construction for two years after the demolition of South Campus’ Bombshelter in December 2009.

After numerous delays, preparation for the opening began several weeks ago. ASUCLA officials trained staff and ran a series of tests, Bolton said.

They also simulated mock rush-hour situations to prepare for the influx of students expected once the facility opens, she said.

The Student Center will feature a Subway and Yoshinoya, as well as two custom UCLA restaurants ““ Fusion and Bombshelter Bistro.

A small ceremony to honor the opening is being tentatively planned for spring quarter, but all that is planned for Tuesday is the start of business, Bolton said.

“It is very exciting to finally be able to open, and that’s all that we’re focused on right now,” she said.
