University police are investigating the robbery of a UCLA student Saturday night in front of the Chi Omega sorority house on 708 Hilgard Ave.
The student was walking from the Delta Gamma house at 652 Hilgard Ave. to meet her friend at the Chi Omega house around 8:33 p.m., said the student’s friend, third-year communication studies student and Chi Omega member Lauren Rosen.
A man, who had been standing near Parking Lot 2, began walking alongside the student on the sidewalk, Rosen said.
The student noticed the man following her, and she began to walk faster, according to a police statement released Saturday.
As the student met Rosen on the Chi Omega driveway, the man reportedly approached her from behind and pulled her purse off her shoulder.
He then ran away toward Sunset Drive, Rosen said.
The man did not use any weapon other than bodily force, and the student was not injured, according to the statement.
The man is described in the report as white, about 30 years old, 6 feet, 180 pounds, with brown hair.
He was wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket and blue jeans, the report said.
UCPD recommends students always be aware of their surroundings and call if anything looks suspicious, said UCPD officer Luis De Vivero.
If in a burglary situation, police recommend students comply with the person, get a detailed description of that person’s characteristics and call UCPD shortly after.
Anyone with information about the robbery should call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
