A UCLA student was robbed Saturday night in front of the Chi Omega sorority house on 708 Hilgard Ave., according to university police.
The student was walking on Hilgard Avenue to meet a friend in front of the house around 8:33 p.m. She noticed a man following her, and she began to walk faster, according to a police statement released Saturday.
As she walked toward her friend at 708 Hilgard Ave., the man reportedly approached her from behind and pulled her purse off her shoulder. He then ran away, police said.
The student was not injured, according to the statement.
The man is described in the report as white, about 30 years old, 6 feet, 180 pounds, with brown hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket and blue jeans, the report said.
UCPD recommends students always be aware of their surroundings. If in a burglary situation, police recommend students comply with the person, get a detailed description of their characteristics and call UCPD shortly after.
Police are currently investigating the robbery. Anyone with information about the incident should call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
