UCLA unable to maintain lead, loses 59-69 to Texas

The UCLA men’s basketball team showed its youth in the second half against Texas, quickly giving up a halftime lead and unable to keep up with the Longhorns. The Longhorns outscored the Bruins by 16 in the second half en route to a 69-59 come-from-behind win at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

UCLA started hot, making its first six shots, but couldn’t find that same scoring punch late. An 8-0 Texas run late in the second half spelled UCLA’s doom.

Texas, after shooting just 41 percent in the first half, finished a hot 54 percent for the game after the second-half surge, during which the Longhorns attacked the Bruin post at will.

Lazeric Jones led UCLA with 21 points. Reeves Nelson, apparently still in coach Ben Howland’s doghouse, did not see the floor in the second half.
