UCLA struggles in 1st half against Chaminade, leads 40-38

MAUIUCLA is picking up right where it left off. That’s not a good thing. How much difference does 3,000 miles make? Not much.

Looking to bounce back after season-opening losses to Loyola Marymount and Middle Tennessee State, the Bruins once again struggled in the first half against upstart Chaminade, only securing a 40-38 lead at the break because of a Jerime Anderson three-pointer in the final seconds.

Anderson’s make was his third trifecta on the night, in four attempts. The rest of the team, though, was a combined 0-for-10 from beyond the arc. UCLA also turned the ball over 11 times. Sophomore Tyler Lamb is the game’s high scorer with 10 points; Waly Coulibaly leads the Silverswords with 8.

The Bruins are without the services of sophomore David Wear – out with a concussion – and junior De’end Parker, who sprained his right knee in practice Sunday and is out indefinitely. Sophomore Reeves Nelson was suspended for the first half of the game because he missed the team bus and team flight on Saturday.
