Correction: The original version of this article contained an error. Glen Parrish never attended Arizona State University.
An 18-year-old man was found dead in the Theta Chi fraternity house on Saturday afternoon. He was not a UCLA student.
Friends found Manhattan Beach resident Glen Parrish in bed at the fraternity house, located at 663 Gayley Ave., said Los Angeles County coroner’s investigator Kitty McCracken. Parrish was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m.
An overdose may be the cause of death, but it is still under investigation, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Richard Brunson. Police believe alcohol and possibly prescription drugs were involved, but toxicology reports are pending, Brunson said.
Parrish’s death was not a homicide, he added.
Police believe Parrish may have consumed the drugs and alcohol before coming to the fraternity house, though this is not yet confirmed, Brunson said.
Parrish was visiting a member of Theta Chi, said Interfraternity Council President Matt Baskharoon, a fifth-year history and environmental studies/geography student.
The fraternity followed Greek life crisis management procedures properly and as of now will not face any consequences from IFC, Baskharoon said.
UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services counselors are available for people who were at the fraternity, said university spokesman Phil Hampton.
Officials from the UCLA Office of Student Affairs were also at the fraternity house on Saturday to cooperate with the LAPD investigation and lend support to the fraternity, Hampton said.
“Our sympathies and thoughts and prayers are with the family of the young man who died,” Hampton said.
Members of the national Theta Chi organization and the UCLA chapter could not be reached for comment.
