John Wooden sits for an interview on Feb. 1, 1984. Today marks what would have been Wooden’s 101st birthday. The legendary UCLA coach died June 4, 2010 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Groups of students and well-wishers gathered around the hospital in the days leading up to Wooden’s passing, testifying to his stature in the UCLA community.

The Wizard of Westwood led UCLA to 10 championships in a 12-year period and set a breaking record of 88 games won in a row. He inspired athletes to not only achieve success on the court but also in the other areas of their lives.
